As online learning continues to grow as the preferred method of employee development. (Online corporate training is expected to grow by 13% per year to 2017). We would be remiss if we didn’t take a moment to acknowledge the most common complaints learners have when engaging with Online Learning.
Here they are:
1. Content is too Long
Depending on which study you read, the average learner attention span is anywhere from 8 seconds to 3 minutes. Either way, it doesn’t take too much time for their mind to wander. Enhance your online learning by keeping things concise.
2. Not Mobile Friendly
What do you mean I have to sit at my desktop computer to take the online training? It’s not 2005. I think we’d all agree, if you want to make your learning experience top notch, make sure it’s accessible on any mobile device.
3. Not Social
Working in a silo doesn’t fit well with the modern learner. 91% of modern learners believe collaboration is essential or useful. If your online training doesn’t allow for this, it’s time for a change.
4. Doesn’t Tell a Story
A learners ability to recall information and feel emotionally connected to the subject matter is greatly enhanced when you incorporate real world scenarios. Having a relatable and relevant story will create a immersive experience.
5. No Supporting Resources
Providing downloadable resources, such as guides, planners and workbooks, not only add value to an online learning experience but they also aid knowledge transfer and implementation.
